Asian Art Museum’s 40th Anniversary Celebration!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of public display of the museum’s collection—the museum first opened as a wing of the M.H. de Young Museum on June 11, 1966. Click here to learn more about the museum's history.

To celebrate this important milestone, we offered FREE ADMISSION to all visitors to our current home at Civic Center on Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 18, 2006.

Throughout the weekend, visitors explored the museum’s collection, checked out our current exhibitions, found a unique gift in the museum store, relaxed in the cafe, and enjoyed special artist demonstrations and performances. Visitors also entered our raffle drawing for their chance to win fabulous prizes!

We will continue to offer many quality exhibitions, programs, and special events throughout the year for you to experience the wonderful art and cultures of Asia.

We invite you to celebrate our anniversary with us!
