Storytelling Tours 2010–2011
Our trained storytellers lead students through the galleries to enjoy captivating Asian myths and folktales related to works of art. All tours are designed to reinforce the California State Content Standards in English Language Arts, History-Social Science, and Visual Arts.

All Storytelling tours are offered to Grades 2–3, Grade 1 Spring session only. All Storytelling tours accommodate a maximum 30 students per time slot unless otherwise indicated. All Self-guided tours accommodate a maximum 40 students per time slot. |

Chinese Myths and Folktales
Wednesdays, 10:30 am; Thursdays, 10:00 am; Fridays, 10:00 am
(Max. 30 students, Friday only max. 50 students)
Become enchanted with authentic stories from Ancient China or celebrate the New Year with stories from the Zodiac during this storytelling session.

Japanese Myths and Folktales

Traditional stories from Japan bring tales of magical creatures and adventures of samurai warriors to life in the galleries.

Korean Myths and Folktales
Tuesdays, 11:15 am; Thursdays, 10:30 am
(Max. 30 students)
“Long, long ago, when Grandfather Tiger smoked a pipe,” is the traditional opening to lively Korean stories that bring gallery objects to life to young listeners.

South and Southeast Asian Myths and Folktales
Tuesdays, 10:00 am; Thursdays, 11:15 am; Fridays, 11:15 am
(Max. 30 students)
The vivid artifacts in the South and Southeast Asia galleries invoke stories from the great hero epic of Prince Rama, the life of the Buddha or folktales from many countries including Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

After-School Asian Myths and Folktales
Available by special request Tuesdays through Fridays, after 2:00 pm (Max. 30 students)
After-school groups attending this program may choose stories from one of the following cultures or regions: China, Japan, Korea, South Asia, or Southeast Asia.

Self-Guided Visits (Grades 2–12)
Tuesdays through Thursdays after 2:00 pm; Fridays 11:00 AM, and 1:00 pm
(Max. 35 students) No time limit.
Your school group receives free admission, and teachers may lead students through the galleries in small groups—but docents are not provided. Students must be chaperoned at all times (one adult chaperone for every ten students). Educator Passes for Self-Guided Visits
The Educator Pass provides teachers the opportunity to visit the museum for free to plan and prepare for their visits. Teachers with a confirmed booking for a self-guided visit will receive one Educator Pass redeemable for one general admission to the Asian Art Museum with their pre-visit packet.
