Honoring Terese Tse Bartholomew
Terese Tse Bartholomew began her involvement with the Asian Art Museum in 1968 as Curator of Indian and Southeast Asian Art. Throughout her years at the museum, Terese utilized her many talents to evolve into the position of Curator of Himalayan Art and Chinese Decorative Art. She has published and lectured extensively throughout the years as a specialist in her field. Her recent book, Hidden Meanings in Chinese Art, is a major contribution. Although Terese retired from the museum earlier this year, we are delighted that she is still involved as a strong presence. Terese organized, in conjunction with the Honolulu Academy of Arts, an incredible major exhibition from Bhutan, The Dragon’s Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan, which will be opening at the museum on February 20, 2009. This first exhibition of its kind showcases some of the most sacred and beloved Buddhist arts in Bhutan and many of the objects have never before been accessible to a Western audience. It is our pleasure to honor Terese at the Preview Opening Gala for her years of expertise and dedication to the Asian Art Museum.
Benefiting the Education Department
The Preview Opening Gala benefits the highly regarded Education Department and helps make possible the museum’s outreach to the community, both locally and state-wide. Your support will assist the museum in enhancing its educational activities and wide variety of popular programs including docent tours, family programs, AsiaAlive, performances, school tours, storytelling, teacher workshops, and educational resources. In 2008, over 75,000 people were positively impacted by these wonderful programs.
