Enjoy FREE general admission to the museum all day during the Asian Heritage Street Fair. The APA Heritage Month celebration continues with site-specific artwork on our front steps, docent tours, storytelling, art activities, Balinese music, a Gamelan X Performance, films, and even an appearance by the Bay Area Flash Mob – a group who brings spontaneous performances of choreographed dances. There's plenty to do indoors and outdoors in the Civic Center neighborhood on Saturday, May 21.

Art Explorers’ Docent Family Tour & Storytelling: Families with 4, 5, and 6 year olds hunt for lions in Bali: Art, Ritual, Performance. This encourages families to look at art, talk about what they see, and listen to stories that bring the exhibition to life.

Gamelan X world music ensemble presents dynamic, original music on the front steps of the museum. Drawing musical inspiration from Indonesian, Balkan, African, Indian and American traditions, Gamelan X combines complex interlocking rhythms and melodies into a visceral experience that excites and entrances its listeners. |

Balinese music: Composers in Bali command a rich palette of sounds and techniques, from the bronze sonorities of a large gamelan to precise interlocking rhythms and melodies. Composer I Made Arnawa demonstrates and explains a few of his favorite musical strategies, and Wayne Vitale translates. |
