Auxiliary Groups

Museum members have an opportunity to join these interesting groups:
Connoisseurs’ Council
Founded in 1985 as a support group for the Asian Art Museum, the Connoisseurs’ Council is a museum organization of collectors and enthusiasts who focus on acquiring objects to expand and enhance the museum’s collection. Annual donations raised through the Connoisseurs’ Council are the only consistent source of funding for museum acquisitions. To date, the Connoisseurs’ Council has raised more than two million dollars for acquisitions of art objects for the museum.
Every other year, members of the Connoisseurs’ Council gather at a very special dinner event to vote on works of art proposed for purchase by the museum’s curatorial team. In addition, the Connoisseurs’ Council presents programs throughout the year to develop the connoisseurship of its members. These include educational programs and lectures, opportunities to view private collections, and events held at local galleries.
Membership in the Connoisseurs’ Council is open to Asian Art Museum members at the Sponsor level ($650 annually) or higher, with an additional gift of $1,500 made in support of museum acquisitions. For more information, please call 415.581.3778 or email CCouncil@asianart.org.
