When I lived in Shanghai in 2008, I used to eat all over the city and I loved visiting the Yuyuan Gardens just to eat the dumping's. These are so, so, very good. I wish I could learn how to make them. I just loved that they were so good, full of juice and the meat was yummy!

Hi Chris, thanks for your comment! As touristy as Yu Gardens can be, I have to say I still enjoyed my visit there a few years ago. Insane crowds, all sorts of XLB, and arts & crafts vendors abound. Still, I agree with you and Gary, I'm sure there are better XLBs in Shanghai. But Nanxiang ones were pretty tasty.

Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurants can be found all over the city now. Many of the big shopping malls have them and more keep popping up. They are certainly some of the best in the city, but like the author says they aren't quite what they used to be and many can argue that there are better xiao long bao available. Regardless, it's an institution in Shanghai and chances are most tourists will go to Yu Gardens anyway so there is very little excuse not to try them.
