If you look at a satellite view of the museum in Google maps, you can see a space in the back of the museum where the loading dock and some ground floor offices are. You can also see it as you ride the escalator to the 2nd and 3rd floors. That's the area where expansion will most likely take place.

I thought that was the issue. Museums are scrambling for money these days and I'm extremely grateful that the Asian is still around, providing us with beautiful things to look at and me an opportunity to gawk, admire and sometimes critique. Maybe there's an undiscovered treasure in the basement that will raise the millions (billions) of dollars needed for expansion but even if you had the money, where would you expand? Space in the Civic Center area is pretty limited.

It would be nice for them to design the extra space if the museum could raise the funds but we're talking several years here.

For a minute there, I thought they'd be hired to build another space for the Asian. You certainly could use a larger exhibition space - more room for more treasures and more traveling exhibits. For instance, the wonderful screen by Shen Fan that's in the current Shanghai exhibit would benefit from having more space around it. But I realize that, for now, you don't have more space. Ah well - maybe next year?
