			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Here is something to get you in the mood for the Burmese puppets that will grace our  museum later this week. I found a wonderful video on the creation of these amazing puppets on YouTube by director Khi Phu Shin.<br />
At the museum, there will be <a href="http://www.asianart.org/emeraldcities/demonstrations.htm#puppetry">demonstrations </a>by the <a href="http://www.mandalaymarionettes.com/">Mandalay Marionette Theater</a> Thursday night at our MATCHA event and also during AsiaAlive October 27th through the 31st. But with the help of Rick Prelinger and his archives, we can see back even further. In this film from 1914, government officials are fighting the opium trade &#8230;</p>
<p>It is cool to see the building of city hall in the background, and just by the amount of opium pipes being burnt I can&#8217;t imagine what a wild west city this used to be.</p>
