The Asian Art Museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. See the accessibility webpage for full information, or you can access specific information from the links below. For further information, visit the Information Desk, call (415) 581-3598, or TTY (415) 861-2035.
Visitors will find everything they need to begin and enjoy their visit at the Information Desk (located on the first floor). Visitors may borrow a complimentary audio tour, obtain brochures, find out about the day’s docents tours and events, and learn about upcoming programs. In addition, members may pick up their membership gifts.
The museum’s Coat Check (located on the first floor) has strollers, wheelchairs, and lightweight folding stools available for loan on a first-come, first-served basis. Backpacks, umbrellas, and all parcels larger than 12x12x12 inches must be checked for safety reasons. Fragile items and valuables are not accepted. The museum is not responsible for damage, loss, or theft of personal items. The contents of all bags and parcels may be inspected for security reasons.
Audio Tour
A complimentary self-guided audio tour of highlights of the museum’s collection is available at the Information Desk in the museum’s South Court. Look for the headphone icon in the galleries for items described in the audio tour—which is offered in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, and French. Transcripts are available upon request at the Information Desk.

Guided Tours
The museum offers free guided tours of the galleries, architectural tours of the building, and storytelling programs. All public tours assemble at the Information Desk on the ground floor. Tour schedules (listed below) are subject to change. Inquire at the Information Desk for the day’s schedule.
Architectural Tours
Learn about the transformation of San Francisco’s former main public library building into the new Asian Art Museum.
Gallery Tours
Throughout the day, the museum’s highly trained docents offer two types of tours: an introductory tour of the museum’s collection and tours that highlight specific areas of the collection or special exhibitions.
Storytelling
Each Sunday at 1:00 PM, the Asian Art Museum Storytelling Corps offer an entertaining and educational outreach program for children and adults. Small groups examine selected art objects on display and enjoy a lively retelling of stories relating to the works. Programs last about 45 minutes.

The Asian Art Museum’s interactive Family Programs allow parents and children to explore the many aspects of Asian art and culture together. Cafe Asia provides dining in a casual setting. The cafe offers a variety of hot and cold entrees, sushi, sandwiches, snacks, and desserts, as well as full beverage service, including wine, beer, sake, and authentic Asian teas.
