    Mar 18

    Free with museum admission

    2—3:30 PM

    Samsung Hall

In anticipation of the museum’s forthcoming exhibition centered on A Guided Tour of Hell, scheduled to open in 2018, we welcome author Samuel Bercholz and artist Pema Namdol Thaye. The pair recently completed a graphic novel that accounts Bercholz’s two near-death experiences — one of which, he says, plunged him into the Hell realm as understood in Buddhist cosmology. The conversation will be moderated by Jeffrey Durham, assistant curator of Himalayan art.

Purchase your copy at the museum store and get it signed by the authors after the program.

About A Guided Tour of Hell: A Graphic Memoir

“Sam Bercholz, one of the most genuine and heartful teachers of dharma I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, has written a harrowing and vivid account of what might await us after death. A dark thrill to read, it is also a generous gift, reminding us that what we do here matters urgently.”—George Saunders

“A work of mixed genres, Bercholz’s fiery expedition, while extraordinarily frightening, seems to direct readers toward living a good, clean life in the here and now, since the conditions of one’s post-mortem future may very well depend on it. Darkly fascinating and artfully spirited, the author’s cautionary reawakening is a potent rumination on death and what lies beyond.”—Kirkus Reviews
