    Talks & Lectures

    Nov 10

    2—3:30 PM

    Samsung Hall

The Dunhuang Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, China – a UNESCO World Heritage Site of more than 700 Buddhist cave temples carved between the 4th and 14th centuries. In addition to actively supporting scholars and artists, the Foundation’s programming foregrounds Buddhism, the Silk Road, and cultural heritage preservation. To mark the organization’s move to the Bay Area, noted scholar and Foundation Chair Mimi Gardner Gates will speak with Stanford Professor of Art Xiaoze Xie about Dunhuang’s history, importance to Silk Road studies, and Xie’s work there as the Foundation’s first Artist-in-Residence. Reception to follow.
