Curator’s Choice: Gund Collection
Open to Friend and Patron members
In 2016, the Asian Art Museum received a gift of 140
Japanese works in ink from the renowned collection of San Francisco
philanthropist George Gund, III (1937–2013). The bequest includes superlative
examples of works by major masters in the ink tradition, many of whom were not
previously represented in the museum’s collection, most notable calligraphers
and painters of the Edo period. Join Chief Curator and Curator of Japanese Art Dr. Laura Allen as she offers
illuminating insights into the Gund Collection and its generous benefactor.
