  • The Rule Is, Do Not Stop: A Filipino Literary Symposium Part 1

    Join us for this day-long symposium exploring, complicating and illuminating the role of poetics in transcribing and addressing Filipino American life against the backdrop of a changing San Francisco Bay Area. The morning session will reflect on the legacy of Al Robles, Kearny Street Workshop poets and the fight for the International Hotel. The afternoon session will focus on the experimental, feminist and multivalent work of Barbara Jane Reyes. Speakers include Reyes, Tony Robles and Thea Quiray Tagle.

    Part 1 (11 AM – 12:30 PM)
    • Opening Keynote - Thea Quiray Tagle 
    • Revisiting Al Robles and the Kearny Street Workshop Poets - Tony Robles, Shirley Ancheta, and Jason Bayani 

    Part 2 (2 – 3:30 PM)
    • Daughter Diwata Aswang Poeta: Barbara Jane Reyes - Kathleen DeGuzman, Janice Sapigao, and Christine Abiba 
    • Literary Address - Barbara Jane Reyes
