Curator of South and Southeast Asian Art Dr. Forrest McGill presents as
a case study of artistic fusion on the work of American designer and artist
Lockwood de Forest (1850-1932), an
associate of Louis Comfort Tiffany. After a trip to India in 1879 de
Forest went into business with an Indian partner to fabricate luxurious
Indian-style furniture and architectural decorations for prestigious US
clients. A pair of chairs and a painting by de Forest from the museum's
collection will be on view for the evening.
