Excerpts from a new micro-opera by Hiroya Miura, “Sharaku Unframed,” deals with a mystery surrounding Japanese woodblock artist Toshusai Sharaku, who produced 145 ukiyo-e prints around 1795. The piece features the samisen, a traditional Japanese instrument. A new piece by Karen Tanaka, “Wind Whisperer,” for flute, harp and viola is inspired by our exhibition Changing and Unchanging Things: Noguchi and Hasegawa in Postwar Japan
