Prototyping

Nov 13, 2015 – Apr 10, 2016
Tateuchi Gallery

Visit our Prototyping gallery and you’ll be invited to participate in a new kind of museum experience that emphasizes learning through doing. Touch different types of ceramics to learn about their glaze and how they’re made, or look inside a statue using x-ray imagery. Then tell us what you think.

Curators, designers, conservators, educators and installers have partnered to develop and test (or “prototype”) innovative methods of displaying and interpreting art for future installations — and they need your help.

By using less expensive materials and creating interactive displays more rapidly than usual, new ideas can be evaluated and refined to achieve the best possible visitor experience without investing too much time and money. Based on the team’s observations and visitor feedback, the experiments evolve and improve (or, in some cases, the team acknowledges that an idea doesn’t work and tries another approach).

The project aims to involve multiple senses and various methods of learning, share different perspectives, inspire new thinking, encourage investigation, and make changes based on feedback from the public.

Let us know what works and what doesn’t. In the gallery, you’ll find Post-it notes so you can make comments directly on the installations. Or email us at [email protected] or share your thoughts on social media using @asianartmuseum and #AAMprototype.
