Samsung Hall
This stunning hall epitomizes the grandeur of the Beaux Art style. The travertine marble walls and floor along with the large windows radiate warmth and splendor. With its generous dimensions, high ceiling, gorgeous chandelier, and rich architectural detail, Samsung Hall is a splendid location for dinners as well as cocktail receptions. The Hall holds up to 250 guests at sit down dinners, 350 guests for cocktail receptions, and up to 250 people theater style. Samsung Hall can be teamed up with the Loggia and 2nd floor galleries to increase reception capacity to 450.
The Loggia
Also built in the Beaux Art style, the Loggia is crowned by a long, barrel-vaulted ceiling. The Loggia is a u-shaped balcony structure, overlooking the grand staircase, which leads directly into Samsung Hall. It houses a collection of beautiful Asian ceramics and is a magnificent location to host a ceremony or reception for 150 (standing room only) guests, followed by seated dinner and entertainment in Samsung Hall. Both Samsung Hall and the Loggia are also accessible by elevators and an escalator.
North and South Courts
These two expansive interior courts capture the elegance of architect Gae Aulenti’s design. The Beaux Arts lobby opens onto these artfully blended contemporary courts. Both courts are crowned by large skylights that brighten the space by flooding the courts with natural light. Open sight lines through the museum store visually connect North and South courts. These magnificent interior courts, with their flying banners, are an ideal location for pre-dinner cocktails and large gatherings.
North Court opens onto galleries that house temporary special exhibitions and can seat up to 220 people for dinner and can accommodate 300 guests for a cocktail reception. (Please check the expected capacity of the North Court around your event date, as it may change based on the special exhibition(s) on display during that period.)
South Court leads to the upper levels of the museum and seats up to 200 people for dinner and 300 people for a reception.
Galleries
The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of Asian Art in the world. The museum’s priceless collection of nearly 15,000 objects spans 6,000 years of Asian history and encompasses the art, culture, and traditions across Asia. Objects range from tiny jades to monumental sculptures of stone, bronze, wood, and other materials. The collection includes numerous paintings; drawings and prints; porcelains and other ceramics; lacquer work; textiles; furniture; arms and armor; puppets; basketry; a Japanese tea room, and many other fascinating and masterful creations from throughout Asia.
Temporary special exhibitions in the Lee, Osher, and Hambrecht galleries (ground floor)—as well as the works in the ever changing collection galleries on the second and third floors (including thematic exhibitions in the Tateuchi Gallery)—are available for viewing by event guests.

Floral Guidelines
Floral arrangements can contain pests (insects, slugs, snails, and rodents) that “hitchhike” into the Museum building via flower arrangements, plant material (cuttings used) and planters (houseplants, live trees and hedges planted in soil). Some of these can then destroy many art objects in the Museum’s collection. These guidelines are researched and set up to prevent infestation and to safeguard the museum collection. Most florists are aware of and willing to work within these guidelines. Florists must contact the Rental Department for detailed floral guidelines.
Photography and Videography
All professional photographers and videographers hired to document an event must review and sign an application for permission to photograph and/or film in the museum before the event. Please contact the rentals department for a copy of the application form.
Printed Materials
Prior to printing, all written materials must be reviewed and approved by the Asian Art Museum
Sound Restrictions and Entertainment
Outdoor sound ordinances must be obeyed. Reasonable sound limits must be maintained within the museum building.
Please contact the rentals department for a copy of the museum’s vendor guidelines, including loading information, set up and tear down rules. Vendors may schedule a walkthrough of the event spaces and load in process as well.
All vendors must ensure guest and art safety during events.
Vendors must obtain fire marshal approvals for use of votive candles, as well as necessary city permits (including for tenting, outdoor sound, etc) for each event.
Please ensure that the event planner is aware of the amount of time you will require for set up and tear down.
All décor must be approved by the Rentals Department.
Animals and birds are not permitted on the premises as part of entertainment or décor.
