Learn about the ancient art of Japanese flower arranging from Rachel Johnson, a practitioner and instructor of Sogetsu Ikebana. The Sogetsu school is a modern form of ikebana which encourages individual expression, while building upon traditional ikebana values. Examples of Sogetsu style arrangements can be seen on display in the Asian Art Museum.
Rachel will give an introduction to this sculptural art form, explaining the basic design principles. She will create several pieces in a demonstration and will then guide workshop participants in creating their own composition to take home.
Flowers and other supplies as well as light refreshments will be provided.
Students will need to bring their own garden shears or scissors for cutting flowers.
Cost per person: $50
