Hands-on art activities

11 AM–4 PM, 2nd and 3rd Floor Galleries

Inspired by the art and culture you’ve encountered at the Asian Art Museum over the last 50 years? Channel that creative energy into making art you can wear or display at home. All art projects for Community Celebrations and Family Fun Days are developed by the museum’s Art Speak teen interns, who’ll be there to lend a hand.

Gamelan Anak Swarasanti – Balinese music and dance

11:30 AM, 1 PM and 2:30 PM, Loggia

Gamelan Anak Swarasanti is an award-winning Balinese gamelan orchestra that performs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond in a wide variety of settings. Based in Santa Cruz, the group has its origins in UC Santa Cruz's teaching gamelan, Gamelan Swarasanti — the name "Anak Swarasanti" means "Child of Swarasanti." The group will enliven the front steps with performances throughout the day.

Crochet Jam community activity
12–3 PM, Japan Galleries
Participate in a Crochet Jam! Crochet Jams engage the public to think differently about the role of art within community and the power of art within society. Liberating and empowering, Crochet Jam is an inclusive public art-making event; the creative process is not dictated nor the finished project judged.

New Traditions: Buhay x Sei – Aoi Yamaguchi/Kristian Kabuay calligraphy demonstration, lecture and workshop
