Thank you

Thank You, Mayor Lee

I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Mayor Edwin Lee.
I considered him a dear friend, and I valued his heartfelt enthusiasm
and support for the Asian Art Museum.
He was a kind, generous and thoughtful leader and a dedicated public servant who demonstrated compassion
and selflessness by helping all San Franciscans.

On behalf of the museum’s board, staff and volunteers I express our deepest condolences to his wife Anita,
daughters Brianna and Tania, and family.
One of my fondest memories of Mayor Lee is from 2012 when we offered him a special tour of an exhibition
featuring Chinese calligraphy from the private collection of Silicon Valley entrepreneur Jerry Yang. Mayor Lee
looked and studied the artworks quite carefully, asking thoughtful questions, savoring the brushstrokes and
the story behind each artwork—many of them were masterpieces, hundreds of years old.
His pride in Chinese culture was evident. I was honored to share that moment with him.

I will miss Mayor Lee very much and will remember our times together fondly.
San Francisco has faced similar tragic losses before, but we have always rallied to support one another
and move forward. I now offer Mayor London Breed our strongest commitment of support as she leads
San Francisco during this sad transition and beyond.
