Come and listen to former propaganda poster artist Ren Ming discuss his experiences during China’s Cultural Revolution. Trained in the socialist-realist style during the Cultural Revolution, his background, as well as traditional influences, continues to inform his artwork today.

Through a demonstration of their art making process, local emerging teaching artists, Imin Yeh, Danny Thanh Nguyen and Adrienne Skye Roberts, share their experiences of leading the teens in the museum’s Art Speak program in the creation of original artworks inspired by the special exhibition Shanghai.

Gene Yang, an award-winning comic artist, discusses his creative process and love for the comic medium. His graphic novel American Born Chinese – about a son of Chinese immigrants who struggles to assimilate at a predominantly Caucasian school in the suburbs -- was named a 2006 finalist for the National Book Award in the young people's literature category. It was the first graphic novel to be nominated for a National Book Award and to win the 2007 Michael L. Printz Award for young-adult literature.
