There is a $5 surcharge for Shanghai:

Ticket prices include general museum admission and the $5 special exhibition surcharge. Beginning January 2010 advance tickets will be available for sale online. Advance tickets are not available at the museum's admission desk. Learn more about visiting the museum.
A web surcharge fee will be applied to the online ticket price. A photograph ID must be shown to pick up tickets at will-call. Tickets are good only for the date and time indicated. All sales are final. No refunds, exchanges or returns. Tickets cannot be replaced if lost, stolen, or destroyed.
Asian Art Museum Members
AAM members can enjoy FREE admission to Shanghai for themselves and applicable guests by picking up their tickets at the membership desk at the museum, on the same day of their visit, subject to the next available entry time to the exhibition. For extra convenience, members who wish to reserve advance tickets can now secure their tickets online. A modest fee of $1.00 per ticket will apply for web sales.
Please note that Shanghai tickets are not available for online purchase to reciprocal members, but may be purchased onsite at the museum's admission desk. A photo ID and a valid reciprocal membership card must be presented at the time of purchase. Please note that a $5 surcharge fee applies to reciprocal members.

Thursday Nights
The Museum is open on Thursday Nights until 9 pm throughout the Shanghai exhibition. After 5 pm, admission is only $10 for Adults, and $5 for Youths (13-17). AAM members, Children (12 and under), and SFUSD students with ID always enjoy free admission. Enjoy Shanghai Nights on these Thursday evenings with more than just a viewing of the exhibition. You can enjoy the FREE audio tour or docent-led tour of the exhibit and partake in a fun, informal conversation with the curator and special guests. Every week there's a different topic. And don't forget, our cafe is also open late, so pop in to refuel with a special Shanghai flavors menu or refreshments.
Target First Free Sundays
Admission to Shanghai is only $5 on the first Sunday of each month; Children and AAM members enjoy free admission. Free general museum admission on the first Sunday of each month and the family programs offered on that day is made possible by Target. Admission is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to capacity restrictions, admission is not guaranteed. Tickets may not be reserved in advance for Target Sundays.

Group Admission
Discounts for groups of 10 or more are available when you make a reservation and pay 2 weeks in advance of your scheduled visit. Group admission rates are:

Private Tours
Enhance your visit with a private guided tour of the exhibition, led by our knowledgeable docents. Cost is $100 per tour for a group of up to 20 people. Tour length is approximately 45 minutes. Private tours are offered at the following times, subject to availability :
Tuesdays-Sundays: 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm
Thursday evenings: 5 pm, 6 pm, and 7pm
Private Receptions

Armchair Tours
Groups may also reserve a 45 min. illustrated slide talk about the exhibition by our knowledgeable docents before exploring Shanghai on your own. Cost is $100 per talk for a group of up to 30 people, excluding admission fees. Available February 12, 2010 through September 3, 2010, subject to space availability. Reservations and payment must be made at least 3 weeks in advance.
Don't forget to pick up your complimentary self-guided audio tour of Shanghai at the museum's admission desk. The audio tour introduces 20 works of art from the exhibition and is narrated by renowned Shanghai-born actress and director Joan Chen, who first became famous in the US for her role in The Last Emperor. It also features informative interviews with curators Michael Knight, Nancy Berliner, and Dany Chan; and with contemporary Shanghai artist Zhang Jian Jun. Available in English, limited supply.
